Research and Innovation Funding Programs (2021 – 2027)
The RIF’s Research and Innovation Funding Programs for the period 2021-2027, adopting an approach for targeted investments, build on competitive sectors of the economy and aim at the practical exploitation of new technologies, the creation of a new dual-use industry and the green, blue and digital transition and development.
The Programs are co-financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Cyprus – Tomorrow” and the Operational Program “ΘΑΛΕΙΑ” and are divided into five pillars:
Internationalisation
Research
Cooperation & Knowledge Transfer
Innovation
Strengthening of Infrastructures and Skills
The programs for each pillar will be announced throughout the period 2021 – 2027 in separate calls.
The aim of the programs is to strengthen the extroversion and internationalization of the ecosystem, to strengthen research excellence and to produce knowledge that will act a driver for the development of innovation. Through the programs, innovative entrepreneurship will also be strengthened with the aim of having a positive impact on the country’s economy, the enhancement of people’s skills and in particular of the new generation as well as the development and upgrading of research and technological infrastructures.
Finally, the programs focus on efforts for collaborations between the research and business sectors of Cyprus and support the transfer of knowledge and, by extension, its commercial exploitation. The development of startups and the increase in the number of innovative enterprises as well as the nurturing of a culture of research and innovation are also highly important objectives.
