European Researcher’s Night starts tomorrow!

Join us for an exciting journey through the world of science, innovation and research, from 8:30 to 22:00, at the State Fair

An unforgettable experience awaits those who visit the State Fair in Nicosia tomorrow, Friday, 27 September, to participate in the biggest celebration of science! The European Researcher’s Night opens its gates from 8:30 in the morning until 10 pm and is ready to take young and old alike on a journey through the exciting world of research, innovation and technology.

The event is organised by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) for the 18th year, in collaboration with the main research, innovation and business stakeholders in Cyprus. The event is an initiative of the European Commission (EC). It occurs simultaneously in more than 23 countries and 400 cities in and outside Europe, aiming to promote a culture of research, linking science to society and highlighting research activity by universities, centres of excellence and innovative businesses.

Under the motto “Mission: Possible”, scientists, academics, researchers and entrepreneurs will present their multifaceted activities and achievements. The central theme of this year’s event is “European Missions”, which will focus on developing innovative solutions to the following global challenges: 1) Climate Change Adaptation, 2) Cancer, 3) Healthy Oceans, Seas and Coastal and Inland Waters, 4) Climate Neutral and Smart Cities and 5) Soil and Food Health.

Visitors can browse more than 60 booths setup at the State Fair, staffed by hundreds of researchers, and take part in interactive experiments involving technology, multimedia, and simulations. They will also be able to use specialised scientific equipment and participate in a variety of activities, games, competitions and entertainment.

For the 1st time this year, the Desing Thinking Challenge will be held as part of the event, aimed at 16+ year-olds and students. The competition aims to introduce youth to the basic principles of design thinking, developing an innovative way of thinking about problem-solving.

The Science Unfold competition will also be held for the third time this year, in which secondary school students are invited to use their imagination and communication skills to creatively present a scientific topic of their choice to the public in just three minutes.

The programme also includes the Student Awards Ceremony for the eBook writing competition, which will take place at 7 pm, and the award ceremony for the best booth.

The European Researchers’ Night is under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Christodoulides The event represents a unique opportunity for the public to get in touch with the inexhaustible world of research and innovation, sharpen their curiosity and broaden their horizons.
